First Gupkar Declaration

The 1st Gupkar declaration was signed on 4th August 2019 at the Gupkar residence of Farooq Abdullah by mainstream political parties (National Conference, Indian National Congress, Peoples Democratic Party, Communist Party of India, Jammu and Kashmir People’s Conference and Awami National Conference) of Jammu and Kashmir.

This declaration was signed in an attempt to oppose the government of India’s decision after it deployed security forces in the valley with created havoc in the valley.

Second Gupkar Declaration

The second Gupkar declaration was signed on 22nd August, 2020 by six mainstream political parties (National Conference, Indian National Congress, Peoples Democratic Party, Communist Party of India, Jammu and Kashmir People’s Conference and Awami National Conference) of Jammu and Kashmir.

The declaration was signed to revolt against the law passed by the government of India on 5th August, 2019[1] revoking article 370 and 35A thereby depriving the union territory of its special status.

KEY POINTS

· The parties have stated that revocation of article 370 and 35A is a measure to deprive the people of the valley of their special power and position.

· They also stated that the said Act is unconstitutional as it opposes the basic concept of democracy.

· This act of government portrays tyranny.
