26. “Reason to believe” —
A person is said to have “reason to believe” a thing, if he has sufficient cause to believe that thing but not otherwise.
Explanation-
According to the section 26 of IPC , Reason to believe signifies the existence of such facts and circumstances which are sufficient in the ordinary course of nature to believe a thing, but not otherwise. It cannot be said to exist unless there is application of mind as to whether a particular state of affairs exists or does not exist at a particular time.
